1- The flow over the American Falls was stopped completely for several months in 1969. The idea was to determine the feasibility of removing the large amount of loose rock from the base of the falls to enhance its appearance. In the end the final decision was that the expense would be too great.

2- Niagara Falls State Park is the oldest state park in America, established in 1885 at the Niagara Reservation. Over 8 million visitors explore Niagara Falls State Park annually.

3- Niagara Falls is comprised of three waterfalls, from largest to smallest, the Horseshoe Falls (also known as the Canadian Falls), American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls.

4- The word “Niagara” is derived from the Iroquois Indian word “Onguiaahra” meaning “the strait”

5- The American and Bridal Veil Falls were turned off in 1969 by the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers to study the effects of erosion. There are plans to “turn off” the Falls again to rebuild two, 115-year-old bridges.

6- There is an international boundary between the United States and Canada.

7- Niagara Falls Is Around 10,000 Years Old
15,000 years ago, southern Ontario was pure ice and not much else. As the last Ice Age began to change, around 12,000 years ago, new landscapes and rivers were formed from the glaciers. When this happened, Niagara River was created and, shortly after, Niagara Falls was born.

8- The movies Niagara and Superman were filmed in part at the Falls.

9- In the past fifteen years two daredevils lost their lives trying to conquer Niagara.

10- Niagara Falls' current erosion rate is approximately 1 foot per year and could possibly be reduced to 1 foot per 10 years due to flow control and diversion for hydro-power generation.
